The 34' Excella is the longest trailer made by
Airstream. Most 34' Airstreams have a front living room, then a kitchen
with a dinette, mid bath, and a rear bedroom with either a queen size bed
or twin beds. Our rig had the queen size bed.
Interior
The front couch makes into a sleeper and has a storage
drawer underneath. There is a large fold out table on the street
side of the couch which can be used for a second dining table and a small
fold out writing table on the curb side of the couch. The street
side credenza had a cabinet above it. There is storage inside the
credenza and a surface equipped for a TV with an electric outlet, 12 volt
DC plug and an antenna connection with a signal booster for the roof mounted
antenna. The kitchen had a double porcelain sink with a spray unit
and a filtered water dispenser. The water filter is located under
the sink and includes filtration down to the micron level to remove cryptosporidium.
Our rig had a gas range top and both a microwave and a gas oven.
We had a spice rack on the wall behind the cook top with a slide down
wooden door to prevent the spices from falling out during travel.
A Dometic 8 cubic foot, two door refrigerator/freezer is next to the dinette.
The dinette can be used for sleeping accommodations for children but is
too short for adults to use for a bed. A walnut patterned
folding door separates the kitchen from the bedroom and bath area.
A three door mirrored wardrobe is on the curb side of the trailer with
the bath on the street side. The bath includes a lavatory, china
toilet, and shower/bathtub combination unit. A small person can use
the bathtub but for most it serves as a shower. A one piece sliding
wood door separates the bath from the hall way.
The rear queen bed had storage underneath. A night
stand is on each side of the bed and a built in chest of drawers is next
to the wardrobe, near the foot of the bed. The top of the chest of
drawers is set up for a TV with an electric outlet, 12 volt DC plug and
an antenna connection. The windows in the bedroom have mini blinds
and curtains. The window in the bath and over the kitchen sink have
mini blinds. The windows next to the dinette and in the living room
have wooden mini blinds and curtains. There are wood and fabric valences
over all the windows.
The interior is fully carpeted and all cabinets are red
oak.
Exterior
The triple axle trailer has externally accessed storage
in the rear bumper, in a locker above the rear bumper, a locker on the
street side under the front seat of the dinette, and a small compartment
next to the gray and black water holding tank valves which can be used
to hold the sewer hose and fittings. A second compartment on the
street side located near the rear of the trailer holds the 30 amp electric
service cord and connections for cable TV and telephone. The pressure
water connection is located on the street side with the fill valve for
the fresh water holding tank located on the curb side of the trailer.
Two 40 pound propane cylinders are located on the tongue
of the trailer and enclosed by an aluminum cover. Two deep cycles
batteries located in the coach to the rear of the propane tanks supply power
when not connected to 120 volt AC. An electric front jack is supplemented
by four BAL stabilizer jacks, one on each corner of the trailer.
Heating is provided by a propane fueled furnace producing
35,000 btu's of heat.
Air conditioning is provided by a roof mounted 13,500 BTU air conditioner.
There are power exhaust vents in the living room and bedroom with integral
12 volt light fixtures.
The trailer has a 55 gallon fresh water holding tank,
a 33 gallon gray water holding tank and a 36 gallon black water holding
tank. The 6 gallon gas water heater has direct spark ignition.
The aircraft grade aluminum shell is strong yet flexible,
important when the road surface changes from interstate highway to dirt
road. The aluminum requires polishing with a special cleaner/wax
(Walbanizer) two to three times per year. If the aluminum is not
kept waxed, the finish will deteriorate requiring stripping and recoating
at a cost of about $100 per foot of trailer length.
The trailer came with a large Zip Dee awning on the curb
side and dark tinted stone guards over the front windows.
